Call the HVAC Contractor and Cool Down!

Three Signs Your Furnace Needs To Be Repaired

Though nobody likes to ever deal with problems with their home, it's especially inconvenient to find out that something has stopped working at the worst possible time. The middle of winter, for instance, is the wrong time to find out that your furnace was on the brink of going out entirely.

Fortunately, there are a few signs you can look for beforehand to see if you need residential heating repair, a few of which are listed below. If you see any of them show up in your home, call an HVAC company to get it taken care of before the temperature starts to drop.

Higher Energy Bills

The only reason your energy bills should be going up (outside of your utility company increasing the price) is if your HVAC system is having to work harder than normal. That could mean that your ductwork is blocked somehow, there's a leak in your system, or that your AC and/or furnace units are deteriorating. An HVAC technician should be able to diagnose the issue quickly, and if they determine that it's coming from your furnace, you'll need to hire residential heating systems repair to get it fixed.

Weird Sounds

Typically, a furnace is whisper-quiet; the only time you should ever even notice that it's working is when it clicks on. If you start hearing a clanking, screeching, or a wheezing sound, you'll need to get it inspected to see where the problem is. It could be something as simple as a bolt that came loose or it could be a fan belt that needs replacing. Even if you don't hear sounds, strange smells that are emanating from your vents is also a cause for concern, especially if it's a burning smell. Either way, standard residential heating repair services will take care of the issue.

Won't Turn On

If your heater won't turn on at all, and you've checked the breaker box to make sure there's power, that's a huge problem. If it's cold outside, you can always call for emergency residential heating repair services, but either way, it needs to be fixed as soon as possible. The same applies for if your unit continues to shut off automatically even if it hasn't reached your desired temperature. The control switch may be off or you could have an entire heating element that went out - your trusted HVAC company will be able to tell you what happened.

About Me

Call the HVAC Contractor and Cool Down!

When we bought our house, we had a home warranty that was good for one year. One of the first things that had to get taken care of was the air conditioner. Before we had the HVAC contractor come out, we made sure filters were changed and other basic maintenance was taken care of. The HVAC contractor that the insurance company sent out replaced the compressor and our AC is working fine now so we're glad that we did it when we did, especially because he found a major mistake in our system. You don't want to wait long when the AC goes out on a hot summer day. This blog is here to make sure you get the help you need.
