What Are Your Options For Residential Water Heaters?

If you're in the market for a new residential water heater, you might be surprised to learn that there are multiple options you can choose from. Most people think their options are limited to traditional water heaters in their choice of electric or gas. However, there are actually five different types of residential water heaters and water heating systems from which you may choose. Here's what you need to know.

1. Conventional Tank Water Heaters

Water heaters are available as both gas and electric. These tanks are available in a variety of sizes, meaning they can hold different amounts of water. Yearly cleaning of the tank is required to keep your water heater in top running condition and to extend its life beyond expectations. It is the most widely available option and the easiest to install.

2. Tankless Water Heaters

Also referred to as "on-demand water heaters," tankless water heaters deliver heated water as needed to a home. There are different sizes available for this type of water heater as well, and you will need to choose the one that meets the water demands of your family best. These water heater systems are more complex to install and may require professional installation.

3. Hybrid Water Heaters

Hybrid water heaters use the air and the ground to heat your water rather than using electricity or gas to generate the heat. The benefit is an energy savings of up to 60 percent over traditional tank water heaters. Like the conventional water heater, the tank for hybrid water heaters requires annual cleaning. It's important to note that hybrid water heaters aren't ideal for use in basements or in areas with extended winters.

4. Solar Water Heaters

Powered by the sun, these water heaters can help you save a ton of money on your showers each year. If you already have solar panels for your home or have been considering them, a solar-powered water heater is a natural progression. Your tank will require annual cleaning and you may need professional installation services to ensure that there are no glitches in your water system.

5. Condensing Water Heaters

This only works for homes that use natural gas heating. This water heater funnels heated exhaust from your natural gas system to heat the water. It does have a tank that requires an annual cleaning and a much more complex installation process than other types of water heating systems. It will help you save on your energy costs, though, which may make it well worth the effort.

Now that you know your options, you can make an informed decision about the right water heaters for your home. For more information, contact a water heater service.

About Me

Call the HVAC Contractor and Cool Down!

When we bought our house, we had a home warranty that was good for one year. One of the first things that had to get taken care of was the air conditioner. Before we had the HVAC contractor come out, we made sure filters were changed and other basic maintenance was taken care of. The HVAC contractor that the insurance company sent out replaced the compressor and our AC is working fine now so we're glad that we did it when we did, especially because he found a major mistake in our system. You don't want to wait long when the AC goes out on a hot summer day. This blog is here to make sure you get the help you need.
