Maintain Your Air Conditioning System

Your air conditioning unit is one of the most important aspects of your home during the summer. It is extremely nice to come inside from a hot day and relax in an air conditioned home. However, if your home's air conditioning unit goes out during the summer, you could be in for a long hot day. There are a few different things that can be done to keep your air conditioning unit running smoothly. Here are some simple things that you can do each season that will help keep your air conditioning system running as smoothly as possible.

Air Ducts

The air ducts are the conduits for the air transported through your entire house. Often people forget that the air ducts even exist, but they are extremely important. First of all, blocked air ducts can be very bad for your health. Mold and dust are the most common debris inside the ducts, and are known to cause upper respiratory problems. Other than health, the debris can block the passage of air through the ducts. This causes your unit to work much harder than it needs to. You can expect your energy bills to go up, but it also puts a lot of extra strain on the entire air conditioning system.

Compressor

The air conditioning compressor is usually located outside of the home. This is another part of your home that is very important, but is often forgotten about. The compressor needs to be free from debris, so make sure that all shrubbery and plant life is cut back from the compressor. It is actually a good idea to put the compressor on a concrete slab away from everything. The slab is going to keep the compressor level, which allows all the refrigerant fluid to go through the compressor properly. Make sure that the compressor is free from debris as well—even vacuum the inside if necessary.

Minor Maintenance

If you keep up on the minor maintenance of you air conditioning unit then you may stop major problems from occurring. If you do not feel comfortable working on the air conditioning unit, then you should have a technician look at the system each year. The technician will be able to make the small adjustments to help prevent any major problems in the future. A little bit of extra care each year will help you stay away from the major problems that can be extremely expensive.

About Me

Call the HVAC Contractor and Cool Down!

When we bought our house, we had a home warranty that was good for one year. One of the first things that had to get taken care of was the air conditioner. Before we had the HVAC contractor come out, we made sure filters were changed and other basic maintenance was taken care of. The HVAC contractor that the insurance company sent out replaced the compressor and our AC is working fine now so we're glad that we did it when we did, especially because he found a major mistake in our system. You don't want to wait long when the AC goes out on a hot summer day. This blog is here to make sure you get the help you need.
